![]() If particle shape is important to API or formulation performance, this critical information is lost without a secondary orthogonal analytical method. A needle-like particle having a length of 100μm, for example, may have an equivalent sphere diameter of only 5μm. However, where particles deviate from the ideal spherical habit, laser diffraction data provides no insight into particle shape. For example, a hypothetical data set might show 90% of the measured particles as ≤1.0μm in size using a number based distribution whereas, that same data would be reported as 90% of the measured particles are ≤5.2μm in size using a volume-based distribution.įurthermore, laser diffraction results are nearly always expressed in terms of ‘equivalent sphere’ diameters, thereby allowing a single numerical value to express the size of a particle. In a laser diffraction histogram, identical raw data may be displayed as both a number-based distribution or a volume-based distribution. Conversely, a number-based distribution is influenced primarily by the smallest and most abundant particles in the sample. This is why D(v,0.9) values – the volume-based level below which 90% of particles were measured and which have the greatest influence on dissolution rate – are so sensitive to subtle changes in milling parameters. In a volume-based method the overall size distribution is influenced primarily by the largest particles present. Laser diffraction particle size analysers typically present data as a volume-based distribution, whereas imaging techniques often present data in numerical terms. If left undispersed, these agglomerates would be measured by laser diffraction as >100μm. The scanning electron micrograph (Figure 1) clearly shows discrete particles of less than approximately 2-3μm in size, which form irregular agglomerates exceeding 100μm in diameter. As such, the importance of a secondary orthogonal confirmatory technique, particularly optical or scanning electron microscopy, to qualitatively evaluate particle size distribution provides important context. Laser diffraction instruments cannot distinguish between discrete particles and particle aggregates. Whereas a method intended to assess particle agglomeration may use reduced, or no, sonication to preserve sample agglomerates. A dry dispersion method may employ high disperser pressures to ensure separation of discrete particles. A wet dispersion method for discrete particle size measurement typically employs ultrasonication to physically disrupt cohesive particles, and the use of surfactants in the dispersion medium to ensure no re-agglomeration occurs prior to measurement. When developing a size-based method for micronised or milled API, the analyst must determine what they want to measure, eg, the size of discrete or agglomerated particles, or both. Laser measurement techniques and methodology considerations Sub-samples for analytical testing can then be generated using mixing and dividing techniques such as spin riffling, cone and quartering, or simple rotation/inversion of the lab sample before taking an aliquot for analysis. When sampling powders from large bulk containers it is good practice to obtain a sample representing the full height of the powder bed from top to bottom, using a core sampling thief, for example. Sampling bias may be further compounded with subsequent sub-sampling in the laboratory or elsewhere. ![]() Although this concept is widely understood, it is often overlooked. This applies to analytical sub-samples as well as bulk samples. Over time, smaller particles in a sample will migrate to the bottom while larger particles will become more concentrated at the top of the container. All powders will segregate during shipping, handling, and even warehouse storage. Generating meaningful particle size data starts with representative sampling. Extremely precise and repeatable measurements are attainable, but understanding the limitations of this technique is critical to acquiring meaningful information. Therefore, representative sampling, sample homogeneity and particle morphology are important because of the small sample sizes, potential settling of the sample, etc.Ī wide range of techniques are available to determine particle size however, the most broadly used technique is laser diffraction. Particle size analysis has become a proxy for routine surface area measurement. PARTICLE size is an important attribute in APIs, solid oral drug products (tablets and capsules – impacting on homogeneity, flow and processing), and as a critical quality attribute in semi-solids (suspensions) and sterile liquid products (injectables). ![]()

![]() Pro forma is actually a Latin term meaning “for form” (or today we might say “for the sake of form, as a matter of form”). Made or carried out in a perfunctory manner or as a formalityīased on financial assumptions or projections That’s when hiring a professional, like those at CFOshare, is the fastest and most cost-effective approach.According to Merriam-Webster, “pro forma” means: If you don’t have a finance background or know nothing about forecasting, you may simply waste your time trying to build your own pro forma financials. Those statements are conveying the future business activities and the future financial performance of the company. They should include at least a balance sheet, a profit and loss statement, and a statement of cash flows. Pro forma financial statements include the same statements as an established business. ![]() This highly specialized form of a forecast helps you, a key-decision maker, determine which options are profitable or even viable. ![]() Your 5-year balance sheet will help to forecast if that expense can be bought with cash or if it will need financing. In year 3 of producing your good, you know you want to buy a warehouse for your inventory. Let’s say your new business is going to produce consumer goods. Why is a pro forma balance sheet important? You will see that it is broken out by months that have already occurred. ![]() You can see that it is projecting into the future. Here is an example of a pro form balance sheet: As a startup founder, your goal is to plan for your business with a pro forma rather than to review what historically took place. Pro forma balance sheets, like the pro forma, is future-looking, often 5 years into the future. Pro forma projections paint an accurate and complete picture of your company over the next 5-7 years in a clear and neat format What is the difference between a pro forma balance sheet and a balance sheet?Ī traditional balance sheet is historical, a tabulation of what has already occurred. Once you have made the attempt but feel it could be more complete, pro forma services are provided by skilled financial analysts, like those at CFOshare. You can create a pro forma on your own to better learn your numbers. Creating a pro forma and including the balance sheet allows you to make side-by-side comparisons of those machines over time and make a strategic decision from that comparison. ![]() Let’s say your company is looking to invest in 1 of 3 different machines to produce your final product. A potential investor in a start-up is going to analyze pro forma balance sheets to calculate their potential return on their investment.Īs a manager for an established business, a pro forma and its statements help you make internal decisions. Pro forma projections ensure that there are no surprises as you manage your liabilities and additional assets like inventories. What is the purpose of a pro forma balance sheet?Īs a startup founder, you can use pro forma balance sheets to manage and plan for your future assets. It lists out your future assets, liabilities, and stockholders’ equity in the same format as your historical balance sheet. A pro forma balance sheet is a key component in your pro forma, your 5 to 7-year projection. ![]() ![]() ![]() I know this is a lot of links, but hopefully it will get you started if you did want to implement this functionality (comment a link if you ever did start it). Probably worth investigating OpenSL recording through USB devices with something like this to get started. I think you would have to go directly into OpenSL (C++ with JNI) to get the raw audio being received and then pass this back into Java to do whatever you wanted to do with it. apk s) seems to be working on this as well but I haven't seen a solution to this yet (maybe in the very near future). JUCE (a mostly audio based C++ library that can compile directly to Android. However, an example on the app store does exist, so it is possible via the USB interface according to the USB Audio Recorder Pro App. I think that this would be a challenge on its own to implement it yourself, but could be worthwhile doing (I didn't manage to see any obvious solutions for this or any open source code yet). However, it seems that much higher number of channel outputs are supported according to the AudioFormat docs (or are at least planned to be implemented if not already). Once everything is working correctly, then you can turn the cellular service back on and it should still connect to the SQ via WiFi.According to the Android docs for AudioRecord, the only channel input configuration's available specified are AudioFormat.CHANNEL_IN_MONO or AudioFormat.CHANNEL_IN_STEREO. A good way to troubleshoot this is to turn off the cellular connection and only use WiFi. You cannot use the cellular data service and expect to connect to the SQ on a local network because they are two different networks. ![]() However with a cellular device, it may APPEAR to be connecting, but it might actually be attempting to use the cellular data connection instead of connecting to the correct WiFi. This is obvious when you are using a WiFi only tablet (because nothing works without being connected to wifi). You must have your device connected to the same network as the SQ console. PS – as far as your phone not connecting to the SQ, this is generally a WiFi issue. You’ll also get volume control as well which is very important. Plug this into your output and plug the headphones into it. I’d suggest that you look at something like the Behringer P2 headphone amplifiers (not the PM1 however as it doesn’t act as a headphone amplifier) which retails for $59. This is where a headphone amplifier comes in – it raises the voltage of the output to a level that provides normal listening levels. While you may be able to hear everything on your headphones plugging directly into an output, it’s probably going to be very low volume. That’s because the output provides a very low voltage signal and a headphone, like a speaker, needs to have the source signal amplified to get it to normal listening levels. That being said, the system really isn’t designed to plug a headphone directly into a stage output. I also wouldn’t assume that all TSR cables will be wired the same way. It’s the TSR cable that is providing this “bridging” between a single mono signal coming out of one ear and a mono signal coming out of both ears. Makes me a little nervous that one day I will come in and it won’t work again but hopefully that isn’t the case. Maybe an issue with the install on my phone? Not real sure but I just knew that I had a table, an iPad, and another iPhone that were all connecting fine but my phone wouldn’t work. On my SQ4You I eventually got it to work but I had to uninstall the app off my phone and reinstall it. Regardless, bought some new 1/4 TRS jacks for the stage box and redid some wiring and I’m up and going. So…either that Speakon jack isn’t wired to accommodate both sides (honestly maybe speakon is only mono since you typically just run a speaker from it, I have no idea) or the adapter that I had for Speakon to 1/4 was not TRS. Eventually I just took an XLR to TRS cable and plugged directly into the back of the board and plugged my earbuds into that and I had both left and right even though the output channel was set to mono (which is what I wanted). ![]() That is what was giving me only left signal. Kenwood dpx u5120 car stereo stuck in standby mode. The original stage box had two Speakon jacks that we were using for our wedge monitors so in an attempt to reuse that I found a Speakon to 1/4 adapter and plugged the earbuds directly into that adapter. Press and hold the button with the magnifying glass and return arrow to exit. After several hours of messing with it I eventually got my in ear to work as expected by changing the connectors I was using. ![]() ![]() ![]() Another goal for this system is to provide a minimum of 75% of my food needs for approximately one year and cost less than $1000 to build.
